FSHISD Board of Trustees Approves 2017 – 2018 School Year Calendar

Fort Sam Houston ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved the 2017 – 2018 school year calendar option # 2 at its regularly scheduled board meeting held on April 21, 2017. The calendar was created based on the needs of our highly mobile military community, is in compliance with state legislation that requires at least 75,600 minutes of instruction, and would support our board approved District of Innovation Plan.

FSHISD Recognized by Google!

Recently, Google launched a new program designed to identify and acknowledge educational organizations across the country who demonstrate vision and thought leadership through their adoption of Google for Education technology and who are excited to share their experiences, learnings, and best practices with others. The new program is called the Google for Education Reference District Program and FSHISD is one of the first districts in the country to be recognized.

In an email to the district Google stated, “Based on your district’s strong use of G Suite for Education tools and deep adoption of Google Chromebooks, you are one of the “Googliest” districts in the US.”

This special honor truly recognizes the efforts of everyone in the district -- especially our instructional staff who engage our students in their learning, our students who create incredible projects and submit outstanding work, as well as members of our outstanding Board of Trustees and Leadership Team.

MOTM T-Shirts on Sale!

The Month of the Military Child is celebrated in April to highlight the courage, sacrifice, and the patriotism of our young heroes. The Month of the Military Child was established by Caspar Weinberg in 1986 (Defense Secretary) to recognize our military children. Cougar PAWS will host many activities during the month of April for our children. More information will be coming soon. In the meantime, please order your purple Month of the Military Child shirt and help us celebrate our kids. Click the headline above for an order form. No Charging in Cafeterias Starting in May

In order for our food services department to reconcile negative balances, students will no longer be allowed to charge meals beginning May 1st , 2017. Currently our charging policy allows a grace period of up to five days of meals if their accounts are negative and an alternate snack is offered temporarily once the grace period has expired and the account still has not been funded. Please be certain student cafeteria accounts are sufficiently funded in order for them to receive a meal.

FSHISD Posts District of Innovation Plan

The District of Innovation concept, passed by Texas Legislature, gives traditional school districts more flexibility and local control and increases a district’s ability to decide what best meets the unique needs of the students and to customize a response to those needs. In our ongoing effort to meet the needs of our students and families, FSHISd has posted a proposed plan to become a District of Innovation. "Cole's Got Talent" Talent Show February 25th!

We invite everyone to see all the wonderful talent we have in FSHISD at the "Cole's Got Talent Show and Dinner." There will be singing, dancing, guitar and piano playing, gymnastics, and more. Tickets are now on sale at the Cole High School and Middle School Main offices for $7.00 per ticket. Kids age 4 and under are free. They can also be purchased at the Elementary School. The price includes dinner and a show. So, bring out your family and friends to enjoy this wonderful event on Feb 25th. Doors will open at 5:00 pm. Remember to bring extra money for the silent auction and the bake sale. We hope to see everyone there!

Information on New A-F Rating System

The Texas Legislature will soon consider a preliminary “what if” report for a new accountability system using an A – F rating system for districts and schools. Although slated to begin in 2018, the Texas Education Agency is releasing the new model of ratings to the public on January 6 and will include ratings based on a grade each district and campus would have received if the new system was in place. This “what if” rating does not impact the official 2016 accountability results.
